I need help guys.I got crunched on a heavy beach break and I ended up on top of my center fin .It pushed it sideways and it has moved the fin box over creased the foam and split the glass .It is on a 9 ft Southcoast Longboard I figure it may need to be removed and redone .Any advise would be appreciated on correct repair method as the board is my brothers due back from Singapore in 1 month. Thanks for any help

Hey Bummer. Thin router blade, all around the tilted box, put fin in, tap out box/fin combo with rubber mallet. Check box for structural integrity. If cracked, replace with Chinook, the kind with the post. If not, surforam, grind, and sand clean, re-install with a couple of layers of glass, and maybe install woodies. Yeah, you gotta clean the cavity pretty well, use lam resin, and set it straight. Or…spend the $100 or so for a finbox job.

Thanks Lee what is woodies

Woodies… a piece of wood, about the depth of the box, used to sandwich the finbox along the side, so next time it happens, the wood takes some of the load, instead of crushing the foam that is next to the finbox. Can be 3/16th up to 3/8th, and usually hangin past the box by a couple of inches. You can also tie the finbox to the deck laminate, making the assembly stronger.
