Challenger #377 Info Please

I’m new to Swaylock’s but have noticed some of the Challenger guys are pretty active bloggers here.

Can anyone tell me more about this board, a 10’2" Challenger seial number 377? Who shaped it? What year? Where was it made? Is the skeg in the board the proper shape, or has it been altered?

I plan to hold on to this board and ride it occasionally in the Pacific Northwest.

And NO, I did not drill that hole in the fin to add a leash string.

Seller said that he bought the board used in Westport, Washington around the year 1987.

Any info would be much appreciated.

I’ll bet that board dates from 1963 or 64.      Measure the squaretail, it looks to be 6 inches.      The fin is original to the board, a reverse  D  fin, popular in those years.     It’s worn down a bit.     Appears to have had some nicks sanded out.     I shaped for them for a few weeks , in '62, and that looks like the template I brought to the table then.    Including the fin.     This was pre Bobby Thomas.     Bill Bahne was the owner then.      It’s an oldie.    Perhaps even a goodie.

Wow, thanks for the info & the personal connection. I love vintage boards and learning more about them!

According to Stoked-n-board, that number (377) makes it a 1962 shape. Sounds about right, given the fin and planshape.
