Hi folks,
I’m about to embark on my first chambered build having graduated from a few alaia builds. I have my timber (perfectly supplied as usual from Grant at Surfing Green). It’s going to be a 6’1" mini simmons design, and I’ve completed my plans. The timber is 20mm thick (cheaper than thicker stock in case I completely screw it up!) so I’ll be cutting 30 pieces from my rocker template.
My first (of what will probably be many) question is to get an idea of how much glue I’ll need. I need to mail order some Titebond III and I can get it in either a 475mm tube or 3.7l “can”. Initially I’ll be gluing it up in three piece lots to end up with 10 x 60mm strips before spot gluing to do the main shaping. 475mm doesn’t sound like it will be enough glue but that’s based on gut feel more than any science.
So should I go with the 3.7l can?
As I start rolling I’ll try and post progress pics as what’s here already has been so helpful to me and I’d like to contribute more!
Cheers
Chuck
