I just wanted to share my new board I just picked up today from Matt Bettis. The board dims are 5’-4" x 22 1/4 x 2 5/8", with a radical 4 channel bottom and twin keels! I wanted to try something different for a summer board, than the fishes I have been riding. Matt was cool enough to take some of my input and apply it to his design, and this is what we came up with. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow! Full report coming soon.
I like the shape a lot, but the fin placement is tripping me out. They just look too far back and close to center. Though I’m coming from a long board perspective and this REALLY aint that. 5’4"??!! Thats not even a chip. More like a crumb at the bottom of the bag. Not a bad name for it actually. Really interested in the ride report. Thanks fro the pics!
THATS IT ROB!!!
you have way too many boards
just this week ,you got Stamps doin one up for ya and now a new Betis… Jeeeeezzz, save the rest of us some foam!!!
LOL!!!
Nice little nugget , me like!!!
Thanks Spud,I like your name for it. I’m going to take it out today so we’ll see how it goes.
Ken you should know there is no such thing as to many boards.
back in the '70’s? bill caster built me a board with that exact bottom, the fins were a bit further up and it had a pointed nose—dam! i liked that board
hey Rob
Ya I was just messin, I thinking of making me a nice gun soon
Hey Thanks for setting up Whitney with a blank last friday
we got her shaped up on sunday
Whitney should be starting a build thread here shortly
That’s cool Ken.You need to send more people in that look like her.
Im workin on it
she is a sweetie
I’ve got a 6’0" x 20 3/4" round-pin twinnie from '82 with similar 4-channel bottom and a hydro-step behind the fins. I’m too old and heavy to ride it now, 6’8" is my lower limit, but it sure went great in the day. IMHO the channels work way better on twinnies than they do on thrusters–they add drive that twinnies otherwise can lack.
That board sounds cool.Do you have any pics of it?
How did her shape turn out Ken?
sooooo…
how do you like it?
Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone on the ride report.Surf has been pretty bad around here since I got it.Even in the weak surf we have had, the board has worked great. The board performs awesome, it does great tight turns and cutbacks ,and that giant nose doesn’t catch. Those channels feel great they give the board tons of bite in and out of turns. You get a lot more performance out of it than a traditional twin. It takes a little bit of wave to get it going, and you need to start pushing off the fins right away to get it up to speed, once you do the thing flies.Overall I am super stoked and love the board.
Sorry, Rob, I don’t have a digital camera and haven’t learned how to post pics on here yet. If you get up Ventura way, I’d be glad to show it to you.
So we made a few modifications to the design. We made the tail wider and nose narrower to even out the outline. Pushed the concave deeper and farther forward for enhanced paddlabilty, while maitaining the rail curve to keep the turning radius tight. Plus a baby optinal trailer for the bigger days and less slide. Done up in a freelapped tiger stripes in angry clown colors just for fun.
Do you have any strong feelings about not using quads, wee’quads… (that center fin looks about the right size, maybe a smidge bigger but than again…)?
By the way very very nice!
kc
No, I like quads a lot. I was just going for something different on this one.
The board looks sweet. What’s the point of the channels though? Thanks, C
The channels give the board a little more bite than your average twin fin.
