Instead of laying out the cash for a lokbox system and fins, i figured i would attempt to make all four runners and the center fin. Everthing came out halfway decent for my poor glassing standards, and i am actually pretty happy with the center fin. It is the first one that i have made, and trying to foil around that tab is a pain in the ass. Anyway, i tried to document it the best i could, i hope my photography is allright, i always get such poor resolution when trying to upload pics. Let me know how much you think it sucks. Mike
Looks good man. I’m going to be making a bonzer soon as well and I will make my own fins(or try to). What size board is it?
looks good mate. let us know how she rides. i’m interested in how well this shape converts from singlefin to bonzer. happy surfing.
the board is a 6’9" CI MSF. The rails are pretty thick and bulky, but i primarily longboard so i feel right at home with this. I have surfed this board primarily in hurricane surf or big noreaster surf here in NJ. The only problem is the flat rocker, especially in our beachbreak, therefore i am hoping that the added fins will increase holding power in steep surf. I foiled the rear fin with a 5.5" base and a 6.5’ height, its not perfect but i foiled it fairly thick so that it wont flex that much. I figure if it is too stiff, i can always take material away. The side fins were directly taken off of the rainbow fins website. I just traced them onto carbon paper and then sized them up until they were the correct size. I think next time though i will probably use removable fins, glassing in-between the runners is extremely hard without messing up the bonzerish concaves. i ended up doing a lot by hand so that i wouldnt do something i couldnt fix. all in all i am very pleased with the outcome, i cant wait to see how it rides.
green
so clean
you’re
living the dream
it would seem
those fins are mean
with a lean
the whhhooosh
it screams
psu , that’s great stuff …
did you use green tint or pigment ?
cheers

…like “Oldy” , I too am keen to hear how it rides , having used bonzer3 and bonzer5 setups in my [NON-double-concaved] fish[es]
Chipfish…I used yellow and green tint mixed together very lightly…was pleased with the color as the deck is yellow.
There have been dozens of CI SF conversions into 5 finners but you are the first guy I’ve seen to do glass-ons. All the others have been Lokbox and Red-X. Nice.
Did those photos on your other thread help your layout? Or were you already in progress by the time I got them posted up?
Looks good, either way. I like the yellow on red, nice contrast!
Yea the graphics helped a lot in setting enerything up, i actually used five minute epoxy to set the fins and made a wooden template out of a 2 by 4 with 22 degree cant so i could just push the fin against the block until the epoxy set. By the way, the epoxy is great, once it sets up your don’t have to worry about the fins moving, they set rock solid.
Howzit psusurf, Looking at the tacked on pic I see extra glue around the base of the fins. Did you cut off the extra glue before glassing the fins on? If not this a step you need to do using a bent razor blade works great, run the blade under the glue to the edge of the fins and then run the blade vertically down the side of the fins til it gets to the first cut to get rid of any glue left, this amkes for a stronger lamination of the fins to the bottom.Aloha,Kokua
I scraped off the remaining glue right before it competely set, i didnt want the fin to have any play and i figured the set epoxy would have some flexibilty. Stuff smells like crap though.
Howzit psusurf, OK I just thought I could see some of the glue in the pics after you glassed them. Aloha,Kokua
