Ha, I thought I posted, anyway I pm'd you digger, hope it helps, H.
Thanks guys, I will keep posting my journey and hope you all enjoy it, hopefully some others out there who have also always wanted a channel bottom will attempt one as well, just find a snapped board and scab it, and start cutting in channels, never know, one day I might actually get to really live the nightmare when it comes to sanding the bloody things, lol............... One day huei, one day.
I was hoping to finish my boys board for his birthday, but its this monday, damn it, I procrastinate to much........ And no shaping for me on monday, setting up for my young boys party...

Hey huei, wonder who will be the first person to guess who the young bloke is in your piture. Let the games begin....
If it wasn’t a qld board i would have a lobster to say its a good mate of mine, excellent goofy footer still ripping in his 40’s, but… i reckon i might be way off but i’ll say another rippin goofy - TC
wow !!
.....those look BEAUTIFUL , Greg ! [....were you doing single fin ones in the 1970's , too , by any chance ? cheers !]
I'm watching this thread with great interest , guys !
they are a work of art , well shaped channels , I reckon ... [ let alone Erle Pederson's previously pictured JET BOTTOMS... wow ! ]
besides Jim Pollard [one of whose channels is in the previous "channels search for " link I posted , it's on the " swaylocks surfboard design photo thread" .... my brother Simon has one ! ] and the late Col Smith .... don't forget the other channels master , Allan Byrne , [Byrning Spears Surfboards] either , McDing ....
cheers !
ben
Mike Perry and Dewey Weber also proponents of channels on boards well under seven foot in the early eightys. Michael Ho and a very young Tom Curren surfed channel bottoms early on.
Hope im not skewing your thread digger , just a quick question for the forum
i got hold of a Simon anderson energy with the ’ original 3 fin thruster ’ decal on the board from a garage sale
it has a stubby outline similar to all the 5’8 510’s around at the moment and about 2 1/2 thick
channel area kind of just in front of the front foot until nearly the front fins -then some vee out the tail
what was the theory behind this ?
I'm not sure about the theory behind that ....
.. ..but...
could you take some PHOTOS of the board , please ?
I ask , because I had a Simon Anderson 'Energy' SINGLE fin in 1980 , 5'10 ... yes , I wish I still HAD it ! [and wish I still had the PHOTOS of it ! ] . It was a bump [semi wing] squashtail [kind of a WIDE rounded squaretail] , as I remember the early thrusters were . Some of the early thrusters here in west oz featured a back fin box , too...
cheers !

ahh, belly channels, havent seen them since the 80s, have a nirvana with belly channels, I think the single convcave replaced that but I could be way wrong.....
damn i knew someone would want pics ! haha
digger can we see the nirvana please mate?
i have ridden the board in perfect right hand waist high point glass and it did not do much to inspire me, we are so spoilt with todays designs… may have been less people in the water years ago but id rather be a surfer today i think…
hey mate, its sitting under a house on the central coast, so no can do, but what I can say is the channels are exactly same position as the energy, I feel as well the single concave is better than belly channels, would love to hear others thoughts on this.
Greg - do you still shape boards for T&C or only under your own label now? I was sanding at Laminations Hawaii when the T&C crew moved over there and that pic reminded me of some boards that you shaped (and I sanded) with the nose channels.
Ok, ive shaped the first 4 middle channels of the 8 channel I am working on, I seem to have got the blending in of the channels a lot better, but in the middle set of channels, I tried to blend them out before the tail and found this quit difficult, not a raging success there on this pratice run. I have thought of a way I can do this better and might attempt this on my next run.
The question I have for you guys that shape a lot of channel boards, what is the advantage of blending out the middle channels before the rails, does it really free up the tail as much as they say. Im so use to seeing the channels go all the way to the rails and exciting deep like the one I use to own. Do you really find its that much of a advantage, does it free up the tail that much that you think its neccessary, what are your thoughts on this please. I am really interested in this topic of channels and its something that I really want to concentrate on absolutely nailing.
Another thing to add, went down to my local boardshop and asked if they have any snapped boards that they would like to me to get rid of for them, explained what I will be doing with them, they were more than happy to give me a few and will be picking them up in the next two weeks, more pratice for me :)
I havent done any work on the channels for a while as im in the process of moving my stuff out of the carport, my missus has kicked me out of the carport as she wants to be able to park her car there, how selfish can she be........ Im moving the stuff into a small garden shed, its 9 foot long, no lighting, but I will deal with it, hopefully will get a little bit more done this weekend maybe.......
If anyone wants to post anything at all up here on channels to provide inspiration please be feel to do so.
Total bull$#!t! But you go Girl!
