Looking at a Channin 6-4" swollow tail twin fin for Floridada. Remember them from back in the Plastic Fantastic days. Board sure is pretty, but pricy (650). Any info here on the company/products? TIA.
Pricey? for what? an American made product by surfing champion craftsmen with 30-40 years experience each, I don’t think so. Buy Chinese, they are so much more experienced at what your local conditions are
Good point. Better grab all the poly’s I can before they get REALLY expensive. I was lookin at Boardworks also. Figure a Slovackian CNC machinist knows my waves at least as good as a Chinese one…
If Jim Phillips says it, then it’s true. 650 is a fine price. It’s only money. If you want it buy it. I gave up thinking boards were expensive a long time ago. Just buy it, ride it, love it, and let your buddies ride it too. And then get another, and another, and another. That’s what I do. I have a board addiction. I promised my wife I would be faithful, that I would be a good father, and that I would stop buying new boards for at least a year. Hey, 67% accuracy is good in baseball, so why not with me? I’m already dreaming of a new longboard and a new gun. I don’t really need either one, but I probably don’t need five out of the six boards I own. One should be enough. But I want more, more, more. Getting surfboards is like getting lovers. One board for one man isn’t enough. Sorry, it’s late and I drank a lot of Nyquil. Time for bed.
Just a beautiful outline, swollow with rail wings, hard rails that transition smooth towards a slight nose rocker, glassed twin fins with concave, and the glass, just as clear and deep as can be. Jeez, I got it bad. Yea, it’s too nice a form to pass up. Was finding only limited info about the company on the net, and as long as they’ve been around, thought that unusual. Part of the problem is also adding again to the quiver, so maybe I buy this one for the wife…
Hays, by chance did you notice the shaper’s name or initials? If I’m not mistaken, odds are that you might run into the shaper of this beauty right here on Sway’s. (if you haven’t already). Tom S.
No, the shaper is Hank Byzak, I do a very few of the Channins, a select number of 70’s designs, my model and some show boards
I’ve owned two of Hank’s shapes, a red 9’0" pintail Pure Fun he and I did a trade on and an 8’6" S/Hawaii baby NR, neither one disappointed me. He’s a good shaper in my book. Tom S.
I can remember going to the old Channin Diffenderfer factory in the seventies and having my mind blown by the work they did.I almost got a job pinlining and glossing but the old glosser came back (Sam Cody).Broke my heart. At that time Channin set the standards for quality and everyone followed. R.B.
