Hey guys, does anyone here have a chart, or a table on roughly how much time i'll have to glass my next board with MEKP?. I plan on doing a resin tint, rather than a spray job, and im trying to work out roughly how much time i'll have. I have done one tint before, and i managed to do the laps and everything ok, but i'd like a little more time to wet out the rails better. I was thinking of shooting it low ( 1% ) to help give me more time.
Just use UV powder and be safe if your not so confident on your glassing.
Also the temp or as you guy in the underworld say, "Celsius" is a lot more impotant than % Cat.
Really you should be able to do it the same speed etc. There's nothing different doing a tint that a clear excepty you really need to prep the blank as best as possible...no scratches etc.
Don't be afraid to use your gloved hand to wipe extra resin on dry spots on the rail wrap, work fast on the wet out and let saturate...then lam it down leaving the weave a bit on the wet side...not puddling, just a wee bit on the wetside. Do not pull it so tight that you leave little air voids between the cloth weave. Please, please, please that's the place I mean leave it a bit wet.
I'll look for a chart somewhere? But I feel they are just about useless, because of so many other variables, humidity, heat...and the obvious..I mean, living upside down in Australia, toilets running backwards etc, etc. How in the world do you get you fiberglass to stay on the surfboard upside down? Do you stir your resin counter clockwise too?
I knew i could count on you resinhead!!. There's usually 12 months plus between glassing boards for me so i sorta forget how long i have. I'll give it a go, i'll just kick it low.
Don't kick it too slow, or the resin will drain into the foam and suck all your color out of the cloth. It will leave blotchy patches usually around the nose where the rocker kick.
Just go about it business as usual. Treat it the same way as a clear board. just make sure your foam is super smooth and clean.
