Check out Hicksys' Instructional ONLINE VIDEOS!

Hey swaylockians, a few posts ago Hicksy mentioned how he rebuilt the HIXELL from the Blaxell Board.

Well I went along to shoot some video and learn as much as I could from Hicksy and Chipfish.

THE VIDEOS ARE FINALLY ONLINE!!! If you want more than still pictures of supermodels Hicksy and Chipfish (AUDIO TOO!) , head to the website below:

Wozzie Productions Presents: HIXING 101

http://www.iinet.net.au/~livanos/hix/wozzie.htm

Get into it! Forget the still photos of the hixell, watch the whole process of glassing the bottom!

Lavz

Hey Lavz,

They look great mate, well done!!! Typical Wozzie humour too!!!

Viewers should take these instructions with a grain of salt, please seek professional advice for real life situations.

Results may vary.

thats the swaylocks spirit! good on ya Lavz i’m checking it out now. 96 swaylockians so far.

Good work lads!

I like the way you don’t have to rush with epoxy, seems like a walk in the park compared to a 20 minute sprint.

Are there any other online videos like these.

Thanks guys great stuff, might try epoxy myself next time.

That’s really usefull thank you dudes!

Flavio

For some reason my silly dial up intenet will only let me listen to it.

Who is talking through the steps in cutting the glass? is Lavz talking too or is it chipper in the background?

great work by the way!

Hey josh,

With dial up, the files will be kinda large. If you can try and right click on them and “save as” to your computer… then when they are downloaded you can watch them off your computer.

Hicksy does most of the talking… explaining whats what and what he is doing.

I ask all the inexperienced and newbie questions

Chip is also in there making good points and giving the viewers eye candy!

I learnt a lot from watching Hicksy and so I thought these videos would be really helpful to other people as well.

There will be more videos to come from the AUSLOCKS board but for now thats all the videos i have.

Glad to hear people are watching and enjoying them!

Lavz

p.s - Chips computer was totally rooted, i’m trying to fix it up for him now, so he should be back in a few days.

Thanks Lavz!

Chipper’s lucky your there!

Enjoying the footage!

[firstly , a big thanks to ‘greek god Ant’ [‘Lavz’] , for getting my computer back into working properly mode]

Yes , I AM fortunate … at the moment , there is no sound coming through in my computer !!

so unlike you Josh , I saw pictures only !

I love how silvery / shiny the cloth looks , while Grant cuts it .

Thanks for the hard work in putting all that together , Ant , in between studying for college exams and fixing my *&%^$#@!!! compoooter …

??? Next … ???

???..the “hixtreme” skateboard video , being ridden at Kinross skatepark ??!

[how about it , when your exams are over ?]

…cheers mate !

ben [ optical anaemic licorice stick]

Pfff uni exams are over-rated anyways

Yeah mate, when exams are over, we’ll film anything and everything… get it out there… there is no better way to show ppl something than video, just talking about it on here with text isn’t as good as a picture… and pictures are nothing compared to video.

When I make the mal we can video that, video the auslocks board…

so much to do, so little time with uni in the way.

We could make our own step by step videos for the full process of shaping, glassing, and any lams or paints…

Gotta get back to study… catchyas!

Ant

  1. my 9’ mal too …

  2. laying up fins , cutting , foiling , glossing , fin base moulding .

  3. surfing

  4. ? stripping the 1970s kneeboard, and reshaping it into a little wide fish ?

But , firstly …

IS anyone really interested in seeing any of this stuff ??

… or …

would we just be making lots of work for ourselves , I wonder ?!

QUESTION HICKSY!!!

does using a brush to apply the epoxy leave more on the board and therefore add extra weight to the board as opposed to one where a squeedgie was used, if it’s as simple as you make it look to glass a board i might even consider having a crack at my hollow wooden when it’s finished!

Hey Robbo,

Good to hear from you mate!! I find using a brush easier because I have all the time in the world to laminate in these temps (18C).

Using the light I can see where there are thick and thin sections are in the lam and I can then spread/even the resin out to get an even spread.

After it’s set I then flatten it all out with the sander, probably take off an eighth of what’s left of the residual glass and resin then I gloss it all as a filler/gloss coat. Therefore I lose quite a bit in weight levelling and scupting the rail sections.

If things look too crappy after that I’ll sand it again and give it another gloss coat.

No rush, it’ll happen…

Chipstar…

I think that laying up of fins would be a great video, i don’t know of any videos that show fin making? Great idea!

L

Hey Josh,

Go to the link Lavz has put at the bottom of the page and install the Divx player. It’ll work for most other vids too!!

YES PLEASE CHIPPER!

Sorry - didnt mean to shout. Just got excited

-doug

Thanks Hicksy, will do.

hey Hicksy, thanks for that info mate, so no problems with bubbles in the lam? also if you are putting two layers of glass on the deck do you let the first dry then do the second then sand and then gloss coat? got a bit more done on the hws today… hopefully if i get onto it tomoz too i’ll have some more piccies to put up.

Lavs, Hicksy, And Chipfish,

Thanks for the video and instruction. I’ve saved it to my computer and will try it whenever I get some space to shape.
