Cheyne Horan Keel Fin

Has anyone here had any success or failure using this fin. I’ve heard a bit about them and was wonderin. Talked to one guy who said it worked unreal put in backwards…

Talked to one guy who said it worked > unreal put in backwards… Watched the Horan/Curren finals battle(80’s OP Pro) last night, yea he rips. That fin was unique and functional yes, but probably limited Horans success(marketwise) since I’ve never ever seen anyone using one since mid/late eighties. But you never know, we’re shaping 5’8" Fish’s again, what goes around comes around!

I rode a big ass longboard once that had a keel fin on it and it seemed to loosen up the board considerably. I wouldn’t mind having one. Late.

I think they are very expensive because they are out of production and hard to find. IF I’M WRONG TELL SOMEBODY TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET ONE! JC

Have been interested in this design as well. Fins are like a woman’s shoe stash, can’t ever have enough of them! Try this site for the fin: http://www.cheynehoran.com.au/starfin.html TS>>> If you can find one try it…I have never been to find one although > i’ve seen them and my bud says they are really fun. IF I’M > WRONG TELL SOMEBODY TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET ONE!>>> JC If you really want one, try calling the CI shop in Santa Barbara. They might have a line on how to obtain one. I know somebody who got a Merrick shaped single fin short board (last year), and an original Lexan star keel fin with it. It was a bitchin looking board, maybe 6’8" or so, with like a 3" baby swallow tail. The feed back on the setup was so so. One of those “fun under the right conditions” kind of boards, but it has been a long time since I’ve seen the board in the line up.

i saw a guy riding a 7’0 egg with one of these fins and it looked like a lot of fun

instead of trying to find one, why not build your own? this is swaylocks is it not? could be a fun project.

Talked to one guy who said it worked > unreal put in backwards… I’ve kept one in my quiver for the last 15 years. Hands down the most drive/projection of any single fin available. The molds were tied up in Ben Lexcen’s estate when he died but this has been resolved and they are available in Australia somewhere. One caveat though, if you surf with a leash don’t bother trying the fin. With the vertical leading edge and winglets, if your leash ends up floating around and catching on the fin, it WILL NOT slide over the fin when you take off like it would on a fin with normal rake. The resulting drag will cause you to EAT IT when attempt that slo-mo bottom turn. If you can live without the umbilical it’s worth the trouble to find and ride one. jim dunlop

Another problem with this fin is the water must be clear of any Kelp or sea grass. This stuff will hog tie the fin and bring you to a complete halt especially during a down the line perfect section.

I posted a website address above. Sent e-mail and within a couple of days got a reply from Cheyne on the availability. He is exploring the cost to ship to US and will reply with a price.
