Wow…I just saw Cheyne’s post. One thing I know about Cheyne is he doesn’t say negative things about other people…He is only an advocate for the positive. Anything he might say political would be to achieve that objective. I guess he thought that a place with such a large group of those who surf would be a good place to get a message across.
I respect sways having the policy even if I don’t agree with it. However…there are plenty of corpo reps that come on here promoting their big corpo B.S. and sling all types of it around without a eye being batted. When someone finally responds to them in kind…then…the thread gets shut down. I mean …how far did the Vietnam thread go before being shut down? or did it ever? Vietnam for pete’s sake. I can’t think of a more political thread that that in this environment.
Another thing…Cheyne doesn’t post here that often and when he has in the past it’s been some of the most interesting and historical stuff posted.
This is just a suggestion to the owners of this site…being self policed like some of the other surf sites is way better than big brother type. Some of the mods are lock happy and alone shouldn’t be able to lock a thread. There should be a concensus among the mods IMO. With the exeption of the owner himself who has the right to do as he wishes since it’s his site. I don’t think legends like Cheyne should be treated any differently than anyone else if they get out of line…but I didn’t see it as him attempting to stir up any ill feelings. I can’t help but to think of the words of MLK when he said during turbulent times… In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

Good post Paul. It’s one of the reason many of the most interesting posters rarely post here any longer.
See how that feels? That is what is going to happen if politics enters this site. I have respect for all of the posters on this thread when it comes to their surfboard stuff. I don’t want to know your politics, your religion, or your sexual orientation. Why throw that bias into the mix.

Cheyne didn’t get a chance, but it seemed to me that he was simply asking to get a surfing and artist voting block together. It was an effective thing awhile ago. Kind of what lobby has become, but without the need for institutions which require someone to be in charge and reap rewards from everyone else’s work.
In any case…it’s Mike’s site. I still think he needs certain folks here get a free hand to do as they wish while the rest are held to certain standards…but…thats life.
