These are chemical reactors not neuclear reactors. Chemical reactors control chemical reactions using cold or heat and controling the speed of the mix cycle.
theres a MACT truck coming …
and its not full of blanks …
meaning MACT standards in regards to glassing with styrenated thermoset resins?

Yes
Finally someone other than Bert was paying attention.
April 21st will be the last day…
April 21st will be the last day...
What now?
I gotta say, foam, schmoam. The polyester resin & all associated solvents & catalytsts bothers me a lot more than the PU foam ever did. It ends up in a lot more hands - with a lot less environmental controls - than TDI ever did. If you’re talking about an end to PE resins, I’ll be happy as a clam
I don’t know that clams are that happy. Don’t they bury themselves under the sand? By mid summer there is going to be more PU foam both domestically and foreign imports than anyone can deal with. Prices should actually take a drop as we wait to see which suppliers survive. Fiberglass Hawaii will never be “cut off at the knees” again, as they will be producing both EPS and PU. If PE resins, cloth etc worries you so much, maybe you could come up with a way to glass a board with siemen and hemp or something along those lines. But what about the core? There’s got to be some kind of “in our lifetime” renewable source. Something that doesn’t have anything to do with cutting down a tree or extracting oil from sand. If any one can come up with it , you can. McDing
Eskimo does not own the formula to the foam they make anyway. It is supplied by a bulk supplier in Australia. Not sure how they are going to get around that one.
But, making a good consistent foam blank has so many factors in it, temperature outside, humidity, mold temperature, and then the chemicals can over react to a number of things. So many people made claims at the SIMA conferance they would be making 300 blanks a day within weeks or a month, non of them has had any success making descent foam yet. Walkers foam is worse because of his attempt to meet demand so quickly, Just Foam is making good foam but only supplying southern California with approximately 150 per day. US Foam will be up and running soon along with who knows what in Mexico. IMHO Chinese foam willnot find a huge market here in the US. Most shapers want a local product, but you always have the guys who think saving $6-$10 on a blank will make a difference. Part of free market choice. Custom rockers, orders within a week or two and most peoples inabilty to prebuy containers, unless FCS also plans to distribute here…Maybe Mitch’s, Basham’s and EZ will buy it.
and just as the foam arrives , april 21 , black friday …
only the backyarders will have the advantage , if there neighbors dont complain …
government workers , doing spot checks with VOC meters …
rumour has it , that every local council authority now has one for the introduction of the upcoming laws …
some large chemical manufacturers have already made some major changes to there production range …
why make chemicals that will be illegal to use …
seems some businesses are planning ahead …

What am I missing here in regard to April 21st…?
Will there be some new law in place or something? New regs?
Sorry if this had been discussed previously, but can someone fill me in???
EDIT: Found it.

About 7 or 8 years ago I met a guy from west oz on rote island. He had a board with a hemp leaf glassed into the nose. He told me that the BLANK was made of some kind of hemp. I remember thinking this seemed kind of weird as I couldn’t visualize the process. He let me pick it up and it was a little heavier than a regular pu board. The stringer was clearly visible as on a normal board so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t glassed with a hemp fabric. The foam itself was kind of a brownish off-white. He said the shaper (in W.A) had just started producing boards from these blanks and hadn’t been going for long.
Since then I’ve looked everywhere for references to this shaper to find out more but haven’t found anything. I DO remember reading, a few years later, that Jim Banks was experimenting with environmental blanks and cloth, and wondered if the two were linked in some way. Ring a bell for any of you W.A guys? It would be interesting to find out more about this.

p.s hope this isn’t too off topic from the original thread.
