CI MSF or Moss Space Cake

Looking for a good single fin to ride when the waves are firing and hollow.  I usually ride a Liddle at Church but when Lowers or Creek is solid I like to take some thing a little friendlier for the steep drops or the hollow bowls.  I am looking at Channel Island MSF or a Moss Space Cake.  Anybody had any experience riding either?  If so, what size you riding?  Any other good single fin sugestions?

I’ve ridden the MSF before and I wasn’t impressed with it at all when compared to other singles.  I consider it a little too retro for steep/hollow.  I’ve never ridden a Space Cake but I have seen one up close and it might be a good choice for what you’re talking about - it’s a more refined shape with a more performance-oriented rocker and foil.  I’m not crazy about the glassing, but I’m sure that’s just me.

Another suggestion that might fit your sensibilities is the wingpin performance single that Ryan Lovelace (Point Concepts) makes.

BTW, what model of Liddle do you surf at Church and how do you like that board in those conditions?

A space cake single fin with a rounded wing pin is the easiest, funnest single fin I have ever rode.   In my mind the merrick doesnt work well at all either.   The merricks feel to corky to me.  Go to Bashams and look at the moss boards upstairs they are beautifull.   The space cake is from a good guy who lives in CA too. Darren

Thanks for the info.  I ride a 7'4 LIddle Smoothie and it cruizes so nicely.  Of all the boards in the quiver and after 30 years of surfing I have found a passion in surfing that I can't remember.  A break like Churches is ideal for it.  No real hollow grindy stuff or air drops to worry about.  The only hazard is that you can take off soo far deep that guys will drop in thinking you won't make it until you come screaming along side of them.  I will look into the Lovelace board.

Merry Christmas

MP3 is a design that is going unreal, just may suit your needs, along way away, maybe we can discuss pros and cons via e-mail if interested ???

space cake is a great board.  Haven’t ridden it, but I have touched it.

Jake Moss is also a good guy.  If you’re local, support local guys.

Looks fun.  I have am leaning to Space Cake but am thinking of having Randy Gibbs shape me one.  He shapes some unreal hulls and other boards  www.gibbssurfboards.com.  Good guy too.

I apprieciate that.  I have heard alot of positive feedback about Moss.  Bashams is where I got introduced to Moss's line-up.
