Hi ,
Which is a better foam ? Clark Foam or Surfblanks Australia ?
Thx …
…clark, surfblanks, bennett, dion, burford have got pretty the same chemistry…are TDI based
…homeblow and elova are MDI based
…mdi is less poluted, cheaper, but yellow (insulation type foam) the companies must add white pigment cause of that the foam is softer than the tdi foams…also in this method the PU has sprayed in the moulds…, so, the consistent is like bread…worst for painting and for glassing…
I travel to Indo bout 3~4 times a year . All surf shop in Bali , any surfboard has a sticker “clark foam” can sell us$80.00 dollar more than other foam . Was told by some Australian shaper , Surfblanks Australia are harder than clark foam …
Clark foam cost 40% more than Surfblanks Australia … they r better coz they sell at a premium/over price ? so , which is better ?
TDI means toluene di isocyanate and it is ok to use provided that you don’t mind destroying the earth’s upper atmosphere and then handing the remains to your descendants as a present. Here in NZ we get the worst results of everybody elses (and our own) toxic behaviour. We are sitting right under a massive hole in the ozone layer and it is getting bigger every year. If you don’t believe me come down here and fry it one summer. Use MDI
(methyl di isocyanate) blanks which are a bit better, or use wood. (please)
Roy
PS here’s a photo showing the rig I use in summer to avoid getting fried.
andi, i have never heard of this price difference before in bali for boards with clark foam, i averagely sell 200 boards a year in bali, and know many of the surfshop owners well and they do like quaility glassing, shapes and finish but i have never had them query foam brand/type?
Is another different story when u buy from em …
does clark have a factory in aus. or must the blanks be imported? this could be! i don’t see anything in my clark catalog about it.
i dont know of anyone who use clark in australia… i dont think its available here…
