Need help!!! My older P20SB Mod Clark planer was knocked off my bench by drunkard. The front base plate cracked in half and adjust knob out of whack… FoamEZ in conjunction w/ Clark rep said NO BASE PLATES in stock for my planer ever again!!! I was told " TIME TO UPGRADE!" … oh how I wish I could but I don’t have $200 + to blow and I have 4 blanks on the way. I can get the stock front base plate, but what to do? - Questions: Has anyone modified the front base plate of the stock P20SB to match that of the clark modifed? - If so any tips. Thanks for the help!!! so much knowledge, inspiration and stoke at swaylocks, I know someone has the answer…
Sometimes you can glue pieces such as this back together.I glued a Skil base by doing the following…I waxed a piece of glass to give myself a flat surface to work on.I put West Epoxy Resin on the broken joints and squeezed it all back together on the flat glass (you dont have to clamp it just let the glue squeeze out and let it cure maybe using some tape to hold it.After the epoxy cured I glassed it on the backside with glass and West Epoxy resin. When that cures carefully lift the part from the glass. If done right you should have a solidified part that is flat and needs very litle cleanup. The key is the glass surface to keep everything flat.(When I say wax the glass its car wax not surf wax…its the mold release),I suppose you could also use wax paper on a flat surface. Also I don’t recommend polyester for this repair.Hope this helps…its really pretty easy.
Good call cleanlines. I always use a good car wax one with lots of carnuba wax(sp).
Cleanlines, cc: Bagman Right on! Thanks for the tip. Panic clouded my mind. I’ll give it a whirl. Thanks again!
try a power tool repair shop. the old style hitachi planers still have parts available. you may have to modify the knob if your’s can’t be fixed. the new base plate is simple to modify, just fill the v notch with epoxy or jb weld and sand smooth, file the edges and you’re set.
