Clear Acrylic ?

I painted a 1" band around the rails on the board I currently shaped. The paint is on the foam. I have read the earlier posts concerning the paint running and to spray clear acrylic on it to prevent it from running. My question is: Do I need to tape off around the painted band to keep the clear spray from going on the unpainted foam? Will the clear spray cause the unpainted foam to be discolored after it is glassed? Thanks, Frank

i did the exact thing last night. i used matte finish spray. i’ll see in a couple hours wether it comes out ok…i’ll repost…maybe we’ll run into each other this season. at what temp. do you start going in?

Between 50 and 55, it is only 44 now. Let me know how you make out. Thanks

what type of paint did you use, brand?

It was yellow, Golden brand.

…I use Future Acrylic Floor polish.Just spray it on “LIGHTLY” after the paint has completely dried on the foam!!!USE a touch-up gun or cheap airbrush.Thinned/watered down Elmer’s glue will work also, and there’s no need to tape anything off,it doesn’t show or yellow if done correctly. If you use canned spray, use it very lightly.Automotive Acrylic/Lacquer works the best.Herb

i sprayed the laps first with Krylon clear acrylic, matte finish. let it dry well. i lam’d earlier, not a single problem. one of my best lams yet. i cut the laps so they would lay close to the rail, not so much on the deck. i was weary at first but it came out great. use a little extra resin for your laps. getting them soaked will make you work them less when wrapping under. good luck…hope to see ya around…keep us posted on your boards, maybe i’ll spot you.

actually i did have problems…check my latest post. spray the whole board with clear.it’s worth saving you problems…
