clear tailblock

The other day I saw a clear tailblock. It was seethrough like glass, and I think it was an austin surfboard. Does anyone know how to do this without getting a bluish tint from the resin building up.thanks

Probably water-clear casting resin. It's a close relative of most polyester ''surfboard'' resins.

Not going to take abuse very well, but nice cosmetics.

shoot Austin a private message. he/they post on here sometimes and have always been helpful.

Make it out of acrylic?

I like to use Plexiglas.  It cutdown on casting time.

Only done a few, but that was my choice too.

Plexyglass (acrylic) works well if it sanded roughly before it is glassed, but lexan (polycarbonate) is stronger as acrylics are brittle.  Casting resin looks good but is weak and bubbles don’t look cool.  The bond is only mechanical with plexy and pc so make sure they are rough sanded before glassing and you will have a nice looking product. The downside to polycarbonates are dense and as such add weight, but that can be a good thing.

Howzit Bill.A little off topicbut I can remember when we had to break up the resin mounds around the lam racks and we made all sorts of things with the blocks of resin. Tail blocks, roach clips, resin nose eyes etc, etc. With the pigment colors and tints you never really knew what was going to surface as we ground the blocks into shapes for what ever we were going to use it for.
