cloth inlays in fins

Hi.

I’ve successfully completed my first longboard with a cloth inlay. Got some spare cloth so I’m thinking of putting some in a fin.

When I’m laying up the fin should I pre cut the inlay cloth to the shape I want and lay it inbetween the layers of glass or should I just put it in just like the rest of the fibreglass and then cut the fn template when the resin has kicked.

Hey Brian,

Just lay up your panel for the fin with 32 layers of 6oz cloth. Put the fabric in after you get 16 layers down. As long as your have enough fabric to cover the fin profile you’ll be fine. Just cut out the fin profile and tab when the resin is fully kicked and you can begin to fashion it. I always start by fitting the tab and drilling it for the screw and cross pin.
