I added some pics of a 5’10" Rick James to the resources. I’m trying to find out what the original tail shape may have looked like. If no one knows, I’ll take some guesses from you guys that are more knowledgable than myself. What era does the board look like it’s from? What were popular tail shapes at that time? C’mon guys, impress me with your vast surfboard knowledge. Please. Thanks, jason
…It could have been anything from a rounded square,r.pin.,diamond,or swallow…I would bet a round tail slightly pinned.I believe it is older than you had described.I would say 1978-early 82.The boxes give that away ,being that they’re the original Bahne F.U. boxes.Tom@Daum did a great job improving this fin/box system.I believe his Red-X fins will fit that older system.Tom?..Herb
I have no idea what Bahne’s original dimensions were. But, Bill Bahne may still have some fins for it. If he does not, then I’d be happy to sponsor an experiment.
…A friend of mine who bought a board from me back in 78’ still has the board, and it’s in great shape. The board has the Bahne boxes ,but the fins snapped off years ago.I recently saw Brian and gave him a set of XLTs,I’ll e-mail him to see if they fit. …Nice hearing from you Tom.Herb
Thanks for the help fellas. I think I’m going to go with the round-pin. I’m not too concerned with restoring the board to it’s original shape because I don’t really have the know-how for that kind of job, I just want it to surf well. I’ll look into the Red-X fins. I thought it looked similar to the Xcel system myself. Regardless, I have a friend that says he can make me an extra set of fins for it. Anyway, thanks again. jason
