Color inlay on deck question

I am thinking of doing a tint/pigment job bottom and top (two color). When I do the deck, do I tape off the lap from the bottom, do a single layer color layup and trim just inside the bottom laps? Is there an easier way? Is that the way? I did a search on the archives but had no luck finding relevant info.

that’s the way to do it. then, after your colored inlay kicks, glass another layer over the deck clear and free lap it around to the bottom.
