I've seen gun handles made with plywood that has alternating layers of color. The foil looks really cool. Has anyone made fins out of this stuff?

Thought about it …
Someday…
Koval Knives was the place I saw the stuff…
I saw this product some time ago, and I’m sure there are others if you Google "multi-colored plywood"http://www.rutply.com/products/colorwood.html
You can just use tints for wood, can't you?
Wow, that stuff is gorgeous. That would be a sweet fin!
The name I was given was Cousineau's up in Maine. It runs about $50 a panel but you can get a lot of fins out of a panel (I don't know specific dims).
Thanks for the link Kiterider.

Yeah, you can tint wood. These companies are taking each sheet from the ply and dying it before laminating it all back together. The result is an alternating color pattern in the wood grain at each layer. I don't know how you could do that with tints.

If you can't get an appropriate tint just get a waterbase liquid to seal wood (i don't know how it is called in english but it's something that looks like milk...)and then mix up with waterbase color. After that sink the fin in it and give it a few minutes to allow the color penetrate deep in the wood.Let it dry and drysand it with a 400 grit sandpaper. If needed repeat it more times until you're happy with the result.
That would work to this effect if I were laminating a bunch of sheets of different colors together (which sounds like some work).
Take a look at the link above and imagine it foiled nicely (by Paul Jensen). That would be nice, right?
