colored resin over lam coat, before hotcoat

Anyone done this?  I’m thinking instead of doing paint over the hotcoat on the nose and tail, to instead just paint on colored resin directly over the lam coat on the nose and tail.  Using RR.  The board is a full tint, top and bottom.  Just thought it might be easier and lessen the chance of sand throughs…If I do this, do I need to sand the lam coat before applying the colored resin over it?

Clean laps and some prep sanding of the lam coat so it’s as smooth as possible so that you don’t end up with high spots. Otherwise you’ll get visible sand throughs into the color that you will then have to try and color match at a later time. Using only laminating reasin for the color might also help becaus it’s harder to sand through.
