I am thinking of making a comet 6’0" - 6’-2", similar to the cooperfish types I’ve seen. I think they use Walker foam but am not sure. Any suggestions on the blank to use?
According to their website, they do use walker foam. I have never used walker (and are not familiar with what they offer). I am close to the clark hub in fl. so I have always used them. Check out foamez.com and check out the 6’2"C blank (originally a knee board blank from what I remember). It might be what you are looking for. The actual bottom length on these is about 6’3". They are real wide (about 24") and thick. It might have a little more rocker than you want. I am not sure what the comet has, as I have only seen them online. But they look pretty flat. But I know you could get the plan shape out of the 6’2"C and if you can sacrifice a little thickness, you can plane it to a very flat rocker. Check it out, it might be just what youre looking for.

I think they use Walker foam but am not sure. > Any suggestions on the blank to use? i asked the same question back in june, except i was making a 7’6" comet type board. gene cooper posted that he makes “all of his comets” from the walker 8_3 (which to me sounded kind of wasteful for a 6’0"), but that’s what he said. it is in the archives. i ended up squeezing mine out of a clark 7_9E. i remember what the outline of the 6_2C looks like, and it will probably fit your needs, as long as the deck is not too domed. good luck!
Ramon: I bought a 7’9E to make myself a 7’2" egg single fin. Unfortunately I’m now committed to using it for another board for a friend I was wondering how you like the rocker etc. in that blank. Have you gotten enough surf time on it to comment on it overall? I picked mine up at Mitch’s in Solana Beach,Ca. with their own rocker (+3/4 T and 3/16" Bass) preferences and it looked good. Kind of killing me not to be able to follow through with a board for myself out of it but…cash is king so I’ll order another. What are your thoughts? 8’3" walker, stock foam, stock rocker. on 6’4" and smaller use a 7’4" walker and cut 8" of the nose off. walker doesn’t make a egg blank under 8’. http://www.cooperfishsurfboards.com
hello Tom, i like the blank, found it easy to shape. i added about 1/4" of tail rocker so it’s a little flatter than yours. it looks like it will work fine, but it’s been a flat spell here since i finished the board so i’ll have to wait to give you a definitive answer. i’m sure it will be a fine blank for the 7’2" that you’re contemplating. BTW, i understand that a causeway bridge in your area was severely damaged by a barge? has this affected your access to some breaks over there?>>> Ramon:>>> I bought a 7’9E to make myself a 7’2" egg single fin. Ramon: Thanks for the feedback. The Queen Isabella causeway was damaged by a barge. It plowed into the supports at 2:00 a.m. one Saturday morning. There were lives lost in the collapse. No way for vehicles to leave or enter this barrier island resort town. A couple of ferrries are now running to remove vehicles only, still no cars able to enter the area. Foot traffic is allowed and walking to the prime breaks is an option. Heavy economic loss with lots of businesses and jobs in jepardy. ETA on bridge repair is after Christmas sometime. Tom p.s. **Gene Cooper thanks for the Walker blank info. I’m interested in ordering some of their products. Condolences to you and all. Some people around here organized a 5-6 hour carpool down there for the funeral, but haven’t returned yet. (Jake’s a good guy. Would give you the shirt of his back…and sharp as a razor.) Stay real everyone.

Gene, I am assuming that you cut off the eight inches form the nose then center the blank? Also is it necessary to rework the rocker much for 6’0" - 6’ 2". What size and type of fin would you suggest? Doug
