I'm still here, just been watching lately...
Going to be in LA 16/4 to 22/4 and Hawaii sometime before 7/5. Probably the only time in our lives we'll ever be over there and would like to catch up with you guys if we can.
Any recommendations on where there's good places to stay and visit would be greatly appreciated. Jo and I never been outside Oz before !!

Interesting, i tried to get my wife away from our young kids for ages, trying to get over to perth, or down to melbourne for a weekend. Never got any interest so i gave up. Out of the blue the other night, she said she wants to go to new york later in the year, and maybe another city, probably east coast. Not keen on LA, but maybe seattle. I'd love to go to portland, though that's mainly because of the amount of microbreweries!. Let us know how it goes hicksy!
Hicksy, be aware that the spring in Cal. at least in the more central part is a season of west winds (onshore) and for a couple of months it is catch as catch can. Definitely a time for dawn patrols and maybe some glass offs as the winds kick up by 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Can't really talk about way south by San Diego but I remember 30 yrs. ago it was pretty much the same. Also, with all the wind comes upwelling and the water can get pretty cold 52-53-54 F. Hope you score!

There are some moderately priced hotels here in the south bay that put you within cycling distance of Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan and even Venice and Santa Monica (longer ride).
April can be a pretty fun month as there is the opportunity for combos with early souths and lingering norths.
It is basically all beach breaks. I have boards you can use…you can also find used stuff on the racks at various local spots.

looks like i'll just miss you over in cali as I'll be up in Austin Tx from the 2nd to the 7th and then in Milwaukee from the 10th to the 14th.
not much surfing in those parts of town from what I hear.
if it was a week or two earlier i'd try and join you there
