Im sick of all the compsand blah blah its just surfboard with some new tech that gets guys frothing and throwing round all this knowledge and 75% of surfers wouldnt know the difference.
Its a gay trendy hip word that everyone jumps all over.If you are going in a different way with manufacture give it some sick powerful name that creates interest.
Not some token word of the year .Marketing hype is giving the compsand status.
We have all been here before many years ago .When i started in the industry 18 years ago
no one would touch epoxy we were told it was cancer dust.And now it has lower Vocs and its safe . Tell that to the sensatised few from years ago and they would laugh.They still cant even use supa glue because they blow up in crazy rashes.
Im not writing off the process or the performance just the word COMPSAND!!!

hi, composite sandwhich sounds worse, it conjures up images of carbon fibre between two bits of bread!
this is the problem of the world today .you have to have a buzz word that portrays an image that is better than the product really is,
compsand, a simple word that means nothing unless you know your stuff, good enough for me, no need for me to try and impress people who need to be impressed , pete
In windsurfing they just call it sandwich (e.g. carbon-kevlar-sandwich).
Composite has no new information, every surfboard is a composite!
Technically speaking every surfboard is even a sandwich composite.
A technically better name would be: “sandwich composite with skin sandwich” but that would sound ridiculous!
I like the name compsand, and it it just giving the animal a name. But what I do not agree with is that everybody starts calling everything, that is not PU/PE, a compsand. Like I said, technically everything is a compsand. But our convention sais that only the skin sandwich things are called compsand. So a firewire surfboard is not a compsand! Firewire is just an EPS/epoxy surfboard with balsa perimeter rails. NSP is not a compsand! If we start calling firewire or nsp compsands then every surfboard has to be called compsand!
Tufflite are compsand!
The bert burger boards are compsand, the balsa skin boards too.
So I agree a with mastermike in the way that the word compsand is used to much these days, even when it is not compsand. But I have no problems with the word itself.
HI Hans, As I understand it the FIREWIRE has a high density foam skin so it by all means is a compsand.
As far as the word compsand, once you understand that it refers to some form of skin sandwich it’s very descriptive, it’s actually quite the opposite of marketing hype.
Mastermike, since you work in the industry, I’m sure you and your bros can sit around and brain storm a better word (that process is known as marketing hype). My vote is for “Aqua Ju Ju.”

Funny, after watching the Roy thread blow up to 12,000 + hits in about a week…and the insuing pissfest…I don’t think you guys can make fun of the surferBB anymore.
As far as compsand being a buzzword, last time I checked, surftech and other makers of mass marketed compsand boards don’t call them compsand. Compsand is a term thrown around by the compsand crew here who are doing amazing work. So I wouldn’t call it marketing hype. So good job slandering gay people, and people doing amazing things with new materials. If you want more info, go to compsand.com where they have all the compsand info you could ever want. More compsand info than you could shake a compsand stick at.
