Compsand Weight

HI Guys

I know this might have been posted before.   I am copying a 6ft 19" 2.5" board.  What is light, medium and heavy in Compsand contruction.  The board I am copying weighs 2.8kg, by what percentage do you think this can be reduced

cheers

Compsand has taken on quite a few different materials since the original balsa boards of days past. Give us an idea of what materials you want to use and the durability you are looking for and someone can give you an estimate of the weight you can expect to achieve.

HI CJ

I have used 4mm Corecel top and bottom, 81g cloth between the layers, glassing - single 81g layer top an bottom, Sanded micro balloon mix as the outer coat.  FCS fin Plugs.  It weighs 2.2 without the fins in.  What sort of weight do you think I could have achieved.

It is my 4th Composite

My third compsand was all balsa and came out at 2 kg without fins, Went something like this

0.75# eps

2.5mm balsa deck. 1.5 mm balso bottom.

2oz inner glass and 4 oz outer glass. But I used a dodgy resin and had lots of blush problems with glass and fill coat lifting off, so it didn’t last long.

My more recent using Paulowna and Macrocarpa compsands have been coming in around 2.4 to 2.5 kg and so far very durable.

what density corecell do you use? you could change the # of the corecell, or change it with balsa [the lightweight balsa!]

no idea on numbers, but mine come out around 2.0-2.2 grams for anything around 6ft2-6ft4
