Congratulations to the ASP and Quiksilver!!!!

Just a total success in New York.  Total roll of the dice.  Some of the best surfing action in a long time.  Great Drama.  Great conditions.  Awesome webcast.  Great final day.  We saw a new level of surfing in this event.  Wow!  Only bummed that Sam Hammer did not make the main event.

Is everyone gonna freak out now to find out that KS was using 5 fins? A win on 4 and second on 5 must mean that 4 is the magic number. He he he.

If he had 6 fins in his board he would have won.

That settles it, only even numbers of fins from now on.

The ASP, Quiksilver and the top 44  got very lucky. The waves were more likely to be flat to waist high than what was had.

Hopefully they will never come back to the right coast and we can always talk about the great waves "that one contest back in 2011".

Sorry to rain on your parade boy’s but Glen Winton was riding and winning on six fins back in the early eighties  !!

Sounds like you’re on the QS payroll mako. The best surfing action in a long time? If you count two weeks since Tahiti as a long time…

For the record, it was the crappest webcast in the history of surfing. How is it that Billabong can do a flawless webcast from a remote tropical island, yet QS can’t manage a webcast without serious streaming issues from one of the most populous regions on the planet?

And what was with QS reporting the conditions as 6-8ft+?! Maybe 4ft on the bigger take-offs, then 2ft down the line.

I for one don’t find the Tahiti contest to be all that interesting as a contest.  I love watching video of that wave being surfed but the truth is its just a tube ride that really doesn’t show much in the way of surfing skill…all it really shows is who has the most balls.  As far as ASP contest surfing goes it really doesn’t get much better than this event or the Puerto Rico event last year.

PS:  I watched almost the entire contest live as I do most of the ASP contests and had no streaming issues.  Perhaps its your internet connection.  Sould also be the distance.  The only event I’ve ever had streaming issues with was from Australia but I wouldn’t blame the ASP for it.  I’m just amazed to be able to watch these things live instead of having to wait for the next issue of Surfer to come in the mail a month from now to find out what happened and see a few pictures.

By the way just to give you an idea how blessed they were with surf for this event…I’m not far away here in NJ and the waves were definately bigger here but the winds never cooperated a single day here in NJ.  Stayed big, on-shore and sloppy here for this entire swell but somehow 2 hours up the coast they had relatively clean conditions all week.  Go figure.

Let’s have a go, while new construction on the H-3 was taking place, some ancient quivers were discovered along with pig bones and shark teeth. The shark’s teeth were imbedded on the underside of some surfboards. As many as 500 were counted on one board. A few had broken off though.

Shark teeth in the soup.

Naw seriously, actually G. Winton was winning. That’s not related to Charlie Sheen is it? On topic:Probably the better days of the year for most of the young groms - without any doubts. Some lasting memories too. The boards in the pics above… Flat rockers huh? Oh that’s another thread.

I agree. Total win this week up in NY. We’ve had a great run of surf. September definitely is the best time to surf around here: tropical systems + warm water = super fun times. Great to see the ASP capitalize on it, and moreover, see the top surfers in the world enjoy the best that NY has to offer.
