conversion formulas...

http://www.onlineconversion.com/

at last!!!

google actually makes a great conversion site as well…

I use Safari so I have a Google search box right in my browser (don’t even have to go to google.com to put in my query).

Ex: (checking thickness of balsa)

query: 3mm to inches

results: 3 millimeters = 0.118110236 inches

google is great for all units I’ve had a desire to know

With the international participation on this site, the various measurements being used have been confusing. Hopefully it and Google will be of some use. Thanks 4est for that reference.

And for those who need this sort of info on the road: http://www.pocketreferencebooks.com/pdt_pocketref3ed.html

Get one for yourself, or several - they are widely available everywhere from Amazon to the local woodworker’s supply. Too much useful info to list, on a very wide variety of subjects inluding a LOT of conversion tables. Myself, I keep one in my office-cum-backpack, one in the truck, one in the shop, etc.

You could probably rebuild Western civilisation pretty much from scratch with the info in one of these…

They are also good for testing would-be employees: there are those who look through it and say “What a handy little b@stard this is” and those who dismiss it after a page or twoand say “What good is this thing?”.

Hire the first - they know when to ask questions rather than plow ahead in ignorance. Don’t hire the second; they think they know everything worth knowing already and think ignorance of the rest is a virtue.

Watch out for somebody who sits down and starts going through it page by page. That is probably me…

enjoy

doc…

You da man! Thanks, John

sweet! Thanks Doc

I prefer this one: http://www.convertit.com/Go/ConvertIt/Measurement/Converter.ASP

You can convert, say 20 kg/meter^3 to pounds/cubicfoot

Just try it in the editfields. It sometimes fails with complex combined units, but usually it works great.

Also this is ok for simple metric to imperial units: http://convert.french-property.co.uk/index.htm
