Cooperdesigns

Who can tell the story about what is going on here. Cooperfish is now making cooperdesigns. Looks like the same boards with different glassing schedules. And fins boxes. Is gene shaping these? Many questions but the main one is WHY?

Same shaper, same glasser. I heard that Gene didn’t like that people were wall-hanging his boards and NOT surfing them. He figured out a few ways to make them more available to more people who would surf them. Same quality. Sounds like a good deal to me.

And you can still get a traditional Cooperfish too. The difference is the glassed on fin & more glassing schedule choices in the -designs) including some in lighter (6+6, 6) glassing, some without the 4 oz clear layer, & some with a sanded finish.

Well that seems to tear me in two. Logically That is quite a big price break for the same functioning surfboard. That being said i think i am still just a huge sucker for the glossed polished and tinted boards. They just dont seem to make my heart go pitter patter the same way.

Cooperfish Surfboards are beautiful!!!

I LOVE the Comet! Espicially in sizes 6ft and under!!!

Beautiful Boards!

‘un-related but need be stated’

Ahhh, the never ending Cooperfish saga. I love the dialog around Gene and his craft. O.K., here is the score: Gene was not making it the way he was going–sounds absurd but it is true. The demand was beyond his production. Customers would call him for Cfishes and request elaborate resin work—which would eat up his team’s time. Gene is a surfer and a shaper—he wants surfers to ride his boards. He really belives in his shapes and spends an agonizing amount of mental/physical energy making them all look perfect. Cooperfish was a non-production surfboard–something he discovered the hard way. The birth of Cooperdesign. Cooperdesign is Gene Coopers production level board. They are shaped by Gene and glassed/polished in his factory in south ventura. The shapes offered in CD’s are the shapes he belives in–more to come! The colors are limited to the production run and what works. The resin work seen in the Cfishes along with the glass-on and extra glass should command the $1500.00 range–something Gene is not stoaked on–he wants you,me, everybody to surf the boards. Cooperdesigns offer no sacrifices just less sizzle. If his shapes are your thing give them a try. All of the new glassing options are described on his website. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Disgusting to think that people would buy a brand new surfboard and hang it on their wall. These boards need to be rescued and returned to the ocean where they belong.

i know that feeling , and i personally get offended when i know my work is destined for the wall …

it wouldnt be so bad if it got surfed for a few years , but unsurfed ???

one guy i know surfed his board to death , then broke it , then converted it to a seat in his games room because of all the good memories he had on it …

thats more like it , a surfboard with a story to tell …

regards

Now with those fin boxes and the fin out of the way those boards will hang much nicer on the wall deck side out…ha hahaha…

I have a 10’0" Cooperdesigns m-Foil, and I couldnt be happier. I ride in New England, and it’s very versatile from summer mush to head high days.

The knifey rails really hold!

For $750 you cannot go wrong from this great shaper.

See the picture of mine in the photo archives.

pierpont scott said it stariaght-cd designs are computer shaped then hand finished-same board as customs but no frills color or glassing.so what you get is a proven shape without all the expensive extras, so instead of 1500.00 for a rad cooperfish, you can get the same shape -less the extras-for about 680.00 or so.it makes a lot of sense to me…
