Hi i am a new member and have been unable to find a conclusive answer to correct core cell use.
Does it soak up to much resin?
How do you do a gravity layup?(quick layup and flip?)
Is spackle the answer?

I spackle it with a mixture of micro-ballons , 1/32" milled glass and micro-balloons and epoxy
Core cell is closed cell, but the surface pores will take on some resin…
You can leave out the milled glass,it just key’s nicely with the cells and adds a bit of “grip” in a Buffo sence…
You can get away without any spackle and just wet out the glass on a plastic sheet then transfer it to the core-cell, but this does not work that well for hand lay-up and vacuum is recommended…
here’s my way of keeping resin from oversaturating corecell.
Lay out a sheet of plywood for a table. Cover it in painters plastic. Pull the plastic tight, and tape it down.
Lay out your cloth, and cut to size.
With Epoxy not resin because you’ll need the extra time, wet out the cloth, and squeegee off any extra. The cloth will end up perfectly saturated with no extra.
Lay the corecell onto the wetted out cloth. Un tape the plastic/ fiberglass/corecell sandwich, and with a friend lift it up and turn it over.
Peel off the plastic, and smooth out the wetted fiberglass, since it might have some wrinkles.
Since you just made a perfect saturation, there isn’t any epoxy to drain into the corecell. Forget the gravity method. It’s too hard to work with the cloth on the bottom.
spackle is the answer for a POS surfboard
Thank you for the advice. I think will try using microspheres and epoxy to seal up the board. I like the idea of laying up on the table as well but afraid of delaminating.
Don’t worry about the delaminating, it won’t. I learned this technique from a friend who made aircraft parts. It is the same concept as pre-preg.
Try it with scraps first.
Don’t forget to post your results.
I will give it a try. It would save money time and weight. I am ordering resin this week so I will update my results asap.
Thank's again for the help.
