Core Fusion Foam?

Maybe the Wozzies can fill us in

but how come no one’s asked anything about these guys?

www.corefusion.com.au

Multi-density EPS blanks?

Stiff in the tail to support fin boxes

Stiff enough inthe middle to prevent pressures

flexible nose area…

All in the same blank and molded at that?

Between this and Ocean Foam you folks have got some amazing options down south…

not to speak of Pawlonia wood as well…

So what’s up in Wozzie land?

you guys know anything about this McTavish operation?

Heard the foam was real nice and strong. Difficult to dent with your thunb, shapes nice and glasses nice.

Bob McTavish gave a brief description of it at the Board builder forum at ASR. Apparently there is a company using the same technology here in the US. Something to do with blowing steam into to mold at differnt pressure through tiny holes while the EPS is going off. I’ll check the article on the forum to see if I can find their name. But, the owner lives on Kauii and has a factory in the mid west.

Try this website:

http://www.markofoam.com/blanks/

I’ve used those blanks from Jim Richardson and they are definitely not multi density…

But yeah on his latest website update they do talk about fusion foam…

Be neat to use light EPS without worrying about having to beef it up in specific areas…

kind of takes away the need for all those inserts inside or under the shell to manage stiffness… Just build it in the foam itself… I don’t even think PU foam came in multidensity (outside of the skin layer) versions…

neat stuff

I wonder about this molding process to put on the shell they’ve developed as well…

Customized(graphically) and stiffness wise popouts…

Oneula,

The Wozzies (Wset Australians) won’t know much more than you - these guys are in Queensland.

You’re right this isn’t just foam

Check this:

"Core Fusion boards are the only completely automated manufacture boards available. (BIC in France has a similar process, but market strictly themselves.)

This means the production costs are the lowest in the world, including China and Thailand.

Therefore, we pass on our savings as low, low prices.

Core Fusion boards are Australian made, an attractive marketing “address”.

Any graphic imaginable is do-able with our digital printing process.

Our plant and process is overseen by surfboard manufacturers with over 40 year’s experience.

Our plastics technology is the most cutting edge available worldwide, and stems from the packaging industry.

Our boards are tougher in the “workplace” than regular fiberglass boards, and resist shattering and creasing. Tested to outlast regular boards. All outer shells are UV proof. As well the product is completely recyclable, a pure environmentally friendly product."

So these guys are doing a flex tuned core with a tough UV proof skin, that can have digital graphics and take any fin system. The whole process is automatic. If it’s a two step process ie the blank is molded then skinned. You could hand shape boards, get em skinned, and ride them. ie you could do prototypes that would perform like the molded boards without having to make molds, when you come up with something that works you could invest in the mold.

ok guys yes mostly all true.

Core Fusion is making variable density eps foam blanks. Yes we are also fusing styrene alloys to it. We have the ability to be able to research and develop all sorts of methods to reinforce in different areas of the surfboard for special flex characteristics.

When you check the website you can see the size of the machines and the factory, its not done half heartedly. We have been keeping quiet unitl now so that we could get the formulas right. Its no simple feat to be able to get it right.

You can also glass the blanks without stringers glued in with epoxy and they surf really well. We might be biased but we reckon the foam is better then anything else you can get at present.

Our styrene alloy product is not going to be the mythical $70 pop out, that would simply ruin the surfboard industry and we have no intention of doing that. Its all about providing alternatives. Keep up the discussion guys…its all healthy.

So what is happening with Core Fusion? I have tried one of the blanks (the shortboard one) and the foam was nice! Shame the blank itself was so thin it left no room whatsoever for customisation let alone enough thickness for getting the clamps on for stringering. Maybe I got the wrong blank. Anyway…

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to get a contact on the corefusion blanks but am having no luck.

I got a phone number on white pages that was a fax # - i have no fax - and the website link near the top of this page returns an "IE cannot find this page" message.

Can somebody Post the contact up here or PM me their corefusion phone number?

Keen As

they should change it to confusion. cant find blank dimensions anywhere. and the website doesnt load. obviously got a deal with a major manufacturer cuz they dont give a hoot about us backyarders

ThatS no surprise, Corefusion as we know it closed in June last year…
