Costco Soft Surfboards......$ 99.99, and $ 59.99...........................

 For the first time ever I’ve been upvoting posts for being just plain funny. Not something I hand out lightly.

Love the direction this thread is going and not just in terms of the practical aspects of shaping (which of itself I think will be interesting to follow), it’s becoming downright hilarious too!

:)  LOL!!!

Hey, do build threads in the SBC contest get extra credit for being funny?

'Liked some of the pic’s posted by unclegrumpy too (incidentally that’s the exact same pic of the broken Wavestorm showing the internal plywood stringers that I was referring to in an earlier post).

Cheers all!

I thought part of the deal was, you could only surf a softy at the place, durning the time…  Like a a  black ball beater…  Not?

Just for dings???  That don’t make no sense…

The one time I tried to ride one - swam out to a cove to get it off the rocks where the coasties left it when the plucked the paniced kook from the midwest up, tying to be nice and save him his depositI(rental) - those funky ass fins folded over, I guess, (they flet like stiff rubber when I checked at the beach) as I face planted at the bottom… twice.  I tried,  but F that S as they say.

On big swell days at my local, which is primarily a longboard spot, I’ve noticed a guy riding a Wavestorm who is a good surfer. I have never seen him on a normal swell or small day. His MO is to take off outside on every set wave he can. It is a mystery to me why anyone who surfs that well would voluntarily ride a Wavestorm. Next time I see him, I should ask why he is riding the POS.

I bought one when they first started selling them. They are perfect for cruising, and they catch waves well because they are thick. Lots of people ride them here, actually too many ride them. Some guys are pretty good surfers and having fun. Saw an old guy who lives on Kauai and rides them when he comes to Oahu at Diamond head on an overhead day. He told me they are real good noseriders. He’d probably be close to your age Bill, he’s a local asian on the heavier side who knows how to surf old school style.

Go for it.

I may.      Thank you for your observations.    I still have to take a tape to Costco, and evaluate the position of the center fin in relation to the shape, which will dictate the type of fin that (I think) would be appropriate.     The only modification I want to make, is to make a different fin, yet mounted in the original position.      I learned long ago that a fin can make or break the performance envelope of a surfboard.      I may use the ‘‘secret foil’’ on whichever style of fin I select, for maximum performance.

there’s a guy that shows up to the Big Sur campout some years who ONLY rides a foamie…

It’s an older model that is yellow on top and is FLEXY.

He’s a really good surfer though and says he likes it because it “puts you deep”.

IIRC, he’s always on the lookout for this particular model because they stopped making them.

Looks like Llilibell had a picture of him and Lavarat and one point but the link is broken.

IIRC they were dropping in together on a DOH wave, I was on the shoulder paddling out.
