I’m lucky if I can catch ten.
At a reeling point with loooooong waves and paddling back against the current? No
chest high mild beach break with no one else around - it’s possible
Mission beach it is...and should have a better chance in the beach break...and those will be my first waves there. Will be working through all the tides. The conditions are obviously going to play a huge factor. I go back and forth if i can get it all in. If anyone want to get me one the board i would sure enough appreciate it. A dime a wave......Thanks
A few of you know me from keiths get togethers but i am a big time lurker and i think i have a legitament shot at going to SA2010 this year so i am pumped for that and to meet some more guys.
I never understood why wave count even mattered. It seems it is just a by product of the actual goal. Outside of contests…Who cares?
I have a theory that for every one minute of stand up surfing time you will spend at least twelve minutes of paddling to get back to you original spot. I came up with this theory a few years ago in Baja. We were lucky to catch a particular point break going off. With our wrist stop watches we timed our rides to be an average of about two minutes long. It then took another 24 minutes of paddling to get back out to the original take off spot. Note, that the current was minimal, and no duck diving was required.
I call it the 1:12 surfing to padding ratio. Extrapolating this out... if your rides last 10 seconds on average, then you will need at least two minutes to paddle back out to your original position. If it takes another two minutes on average for the next wave to come, then you are catching waves every four mintues and twelve seconds. Catching 100 waves, at this rate, will take almost eight hours.

well, I can think of worse ways to spend an eight hour day...if I really try LOL!!!
A 10 second ride there would be epic. Most likely will be short ride / short paddle.
Generally, I agree with TBlank, wave count is usually irrelevant. But, as this is for charity - Good Luck!
Depends where on Mission beach you will be surfing on a really good day it’s easy to get 100+ yard ride K rock to Life guard tower.
Get out walk back dodge the 10,000 sting rays as you attempt to take the people mover on out to the to K rock.
Fight off the locals while waiting your turn for another bowling speed run.
Depending on who’s out that can be a challenge since some of them never figured out how to play nice in the sand box much less the line up.
Some days you getting going so fast you don’t realize just how far you have managed to go.
I say no....because I'm going to cut you off on every one of them.
100 in a day? i’d rather have one epic wave that’s worth 100 of the best rides i’ll ever have in this lifetime " )
Just for fun at age 50 on my birthday I caught fifty waves in less than 2 hours. since then I have tried to repeat surfing my age on the birthday. East coast helps with the small wave interval.only rule is I must be standing before the wave breaks. If I have a small clean day it happens quite easy. If the waves are bigger then I just surf and try it again the next year. Yes some trouble keeping count. If I forget the count I go back to the last number I remember. last year at age 59 I rode my 11 foot board, got my wave count then back out for more. It has been a good time to reflect back and remember what I was doing in that time of my life as I count through the years. This August I'll be looking for 60.
I think you better clarify what a “ride” is. If it is just take off stand up kick out 100 no problem. If it actual RIDES like to the end of wave gonna be a long day.
Its going to be a long day. For myself, a ride should be catching an open face and riding it to completion or resinhead cuts me off. I assume that this place in MB in not a prime spot where we would be taking lots of locals waves. If it were, then i will just paddle out down the beach where it aint. My motto is usually "Alls it takes it one", but i think this is a bit of a different circumstance.
An update: I received my materials now and it is a tax-deductable donations. So I am still sitting on a goose egg but if you are able please make a donation online. I am very greatfull. Thanks
All right guys. Down to the last couple days before the event which means the swell has been set up. What should i expect from good ole mission Beach. Is it just going to be closeouts? Or a chance for some peaks. Trying to figure out which boards to bring. Any help?
Last support call begins here.: Also if anyone is so inclined to support with just a dime a wave that would be awesome. As a side bet putting the same thing on the erbb. See what happens there. If you do decide to give a little just note that you are a swaylockian. If i am able to get just 5 guys from each site they would be stoked.
thanks josh
