Oneula,
nice pic of the shop and the new logo is, well… boring really. But I’m old so that all makes sense. Thanks.

7’6" Nomad…21 at wide point, and 15 wide 12 up from the tail
hey duncan - I got two nomads like dat - only mine are swallow tails. as good as my first one was, and even though i just got a new one last year – i rarely ride these days. lately it’s been mat, or hull, or fish.
cool to see round pin nomad.
I remember going into that shop and marveling at all the shapes…must have been late '69. There were some very spacey looking sticks, most narrow spears. One board that sticks out in my mind is a balsa railed BK shape. There were more used experimental looking boards than off the rack boards. Getting a Brewer back then was like getting a holy grail. Seems like he was only shaping for the big names and there’d be very few genuine RBs…mostly shapes from his stable of proteges (Hawk, Owl, Turner, etc). I kind of trip out at how easy it is to get an RB shape nowadays, seems like there everywhere. That pic looks like a print of a painting I’ve seen in at some art store here in Honolulu.
The old Country Surfboards Shop was a classic. I remember the night the board racks and boards were cleared out and the Steve Miller Band played. Spent many days, post surf session, checking out what boards had come into the shop.
Next door was the Plastic Fantastic glass shop, so between the two, there was always some interesting characters coming and going.
Foamdust, yes you have seen that print in some art shops in Town. Local Artist and Surfer Doug Young has a series of the “Old Buildings” of Hawaii, most being in Honolulu. Check out his site and check out the prints, brings back the memories of my “small kid” day’s, and the fond memories I have of those times.
Foamdust,
I remember seeing the shop on my first HI trip ever and getting a full on rush- ‘Wooah- I’m in Hawaii and that’s the Country Surfboards shop!’ I still wear a Miura palaka at least once a week in honor of all those great landmarks!
I’m hearing a lot of ‘big’ name shapers on this thread - did they all have something to do with Country Surfboards at one time? Could somebody throw in some names of well-known shapers who worked at Country Surfboards in the past/present? ( like i read BK shaped there… is that right?)
