Cover up help

I am finishing up a fish for a friend of mine, and had some problems with the paint job I had done. (it bled like cr@p!)

I decided that I would do a pigment on the bottom and then an opaque white patch of glass to cover up the top.

The bottom turned out real nice, a good solid green color; however, I cut out a deck patch and mixed up a batch of white pigmented resin and when I glassed it it is nowhere near opaque…

I figure that I have 2 choices…

1: I could do a cheater coat on the patch with some more pigmented resin. Downside, is that if it doesn’t quite come out opaque again I have wasted some more pricey resin.

2: I could let it cure, do my top lam in clear this afternoon and hotcoat it as normal… then after sanding the hotcoat I could paint the deck patch area white.

I have some questions about number 2 though. I am planning on doing a gloss coat after pinlining (the green should look real good glossed up) and I am wondering if it is possible to gloss over a painted are with epoxy resin? If it IS possible, what kind of paint is best to use? Just water based acrylic or rattle can…?
