I cracked my stringer, delamed the top (basketball sized), and have lateral spider web cracks on the bottom of the board. I chuck the board but it was my first and cannot part with it. I excavated around the stringer about 1’ front and back, routed down the existing stringer about 1", and splinted it with a dadoed piece of basswood. Question is: what should I use; polyurethane glue (gorrilla glue), poly resin, or anything else. Also how do I get rid of the spider cracks on the bottom?

Some times you just gotta let it go! (moment of silence for the deceased > please!) I have done this kind of repair before. Glass the Basswood in using 4oz glass and sanding resin. Before the resin cures hard take a blade and cut the glass at the stringer line, this will make the clean up easier. Sand down the Basswood and glass it all together. For the other problem you have to sand down to the glass but not through the glass. Now start laying in 4oz glass until you have reached the right hight. I would also use sanding resin for this. Now just sand it down and hope. Good Luck. This is going to take some time.
