No matter what you have to hand it to him - in a surf culture that theoretically values a certain amount of individuality and self-expression Roy Stewart stands out as a true individual who is following his own personal vision.
I’m just trying to imagine what a 19ft surfboard looks like when it’s in motion on a wave. On the one hand I’d be terrified to find myself downrange of such a missile, but on the other hand it couldn’t possibly make a turn that was less than smooth or graceful. Or really long.

howdy candor, as you’re asking for my opinion, kindly allow me to be candid as well.
IMO roy’s (unfulfillable) threat to leave T2S was triggered by (current) general apathy to his threads/posts.
no doubt he’s quite good at self-promotion, but doing it at the expense of other forum members and without regard for forum rules soon got regular forum contributors either fighting back (few), or staying away (many). forum fatigue is what happens when an exceptionally abusive member is given wide berth by site admins to do anything he pleases, so i wasn’t surprised to see forum participation dwindling as a result.
other T2S members may see the slowdown as caused by other factors (like the activation of another T2S site, effectively taking interaction away from the original site) but since there are more member signups in the original T2S vs. the new version, the argument doesn’t really hold water. roy is the only constant.
his so-called departure may simply be a temporary, self-imposed sabbatical to observe site activity— and to delete his abusive/argumentative past posts— in his absence but once forum activity resurges, he will likely return to present himself to new members as a venerable site resource.
this observation is not without basis by any means. when i first joined T2S (and sways), i initially thought he was someone i could respect. his subsequent inflammatory posts & PMs changed all that. i only found out much later that he post-edits his threads & posts to remove offensive/argumentative content, making them appear like responding forum members were doing a massive, unilateral hatchet job on him. if only that were true, roy would be without fault.
deception can only go so far, especially when it gets tiresome.

best not to do this here tho mate . it brings down the tone of the place. swaylocks is unique in that respect. roy bashing threads are not particulary constructive to the forum and have bugger all to do with surfboard building . theres nothing wrong with a laugh or poke fun but when the yesmen jump on the badwagon of an old joke! cringe
