I am getting ready to make a board w/ a 3 fin setup. Am using Fins Unlimited boxes because I want to make my own fins and the FU is a simple base design. The outside fins should have some camber but the box will want to lay flat. I was going to install prior to glassing ( for added strength ) with fin in and tape it in at proper angle, keeping resin out of the box w/ masking tape during glassing. Would this be the right procedure? Only reason for 3 boxes is travel.
Dont put the boxes in until after its glassed. If you want, you can cap them with 6oz after its sanded, its much easier this way. To put in the camber you route the holes with two pieces of masonite under the inside edge of the router. You put the pieces in the center covering the stringer so one edge of the router is on the masonite and the other edge is on the edge of the board. The masonite tilts the router as you cut the hole. We use to have to do this back in the old days of G+S boxes, remember those? It probally doesnt make sense now as you read this but once you put it all down you will see the tilt to the router im talking about.
