Doc. Who is the idiot you are refering to.David.

‘just any idiot’? That would be the joker who did up the drawing in the first place, aka yours truly

Let’s see- The ideal materials for this would naturally be precision-machined marine-grade aluminum or possibly stainless steel or good grade of titanium - lightness is good and titanium is real exotic… yeah, right. In the real world, though, a couple of two by fours or whatever you have kicking around out back of your workshop would probably be fine, plus something reasonably smooth so you can tape or tack or staple your template material to it with little or no difficulty -for instance a strip of plywood. The only reasonably critical thing in building it is that the top edge of the thing is reasonably paralell to the flat surface you’re setting the board on. I’d say any large enough table top would do, as we’re not talking about thousandths of an inch or .01 mm tolerances here. If you know anybody that does any furniture building, a mortising machine would be nice for whittling out the hole in the sliding/scribing piece with a fairly tight fit. Or you could use a drill, a file and a fair amount of patience. hope that’s of use doc…
