Curing; that same ol' question...

OK, it’s been discussed since the birth of surfing bulletin boards. What’s the minimum time to wait for a longboard to cure before safely riding it? I’ve got a 9’6" with two layers 6oz. on deck and one layer 6oz. on bottom, and a gloss finish. I think that two weeks is minimum. Experienced opinions?

If you let it cure in say,100-120f degrees heat it will only take about 2-4 hours, but be careful to much heat(over 120f) will cause you mega problems!

what about cure time on a 5’11" with a 6oz on the deck and a 4oz on the bottom??

what about cure time on a 5’11" with a 6oz on the deck and a 4oz on > the bottom?? In an article written by Dave Parmenter I read that if the resin was catalysed properly and the air temp is above 76, or somthing close to that, it’s cured when it’s dry. I think I saw this at swell.com in the shapers bay. May want to check it out for your self in case I missed somthing. Scott.

I use the two week rule for after the final glass lay up. All of the builders that I know use the two week rule too. It keeps them safe.>>> OK, it’s been discussed since the birth of surfing bulletin boards. If you do what Spitzer says your board will be cured but brittle. There is no substitute for time;longer the better up to 28 days. I don’t know anyone that can wait that long!

.> Not to put you down tw., but I never had a board come out anymore brittle with heat cure, than the ol fashion way. eg.“the fish” I HAVE DISPLAYED ON SWAYLOCKS BOARD SHOWCASE. It’s a year old, single 4oz. on each side, with a stomp patch. MY THEORY: IT’S CURED WHEN THE SANDER COMES OFF!
