Curing Time?

Recently, a fellow garage shaper asked me how long he should wait after glossing before he goes for a test slide. I have done 10 boards, all gloss coats, I always wait 24 hours then buff the gloss and then got wet. I was curious on what some you the more experience shapers reccommend. Thanks.

the harbour site has some good info on curing along with some other things like floatation, etc. Just go to the home page and look for the information link. I would think that the main concern is the curing of the laminate layer. The gloss coat will be ok as long as the glass under it has cured and is not so prone to be pressure dinged.

I noticed a gloss coat that was set in the sun about 12 hours after application that developed some “crystels” (tiny white flecs). So, I would keep it up for a few days. I would go a minimum of 2 weeks after the lams are done before riding – better to go about 4 weeks. I have noticed on several occasions, a two week old board, locked in my car for a few hours, still lets off a lot of “smell” – evidence that the resin is still curing. I rode and broke a green board a few years back – cure times are for real – not a myth. Shine http://users.leading.net/~shine
