Custom Blanks

Shouldn’t this be under announcements or something along those lines.

I had to share this custom blank delivered by U.S Blanks last week. Angled T-Band with colored foam, dark cedar stringers and black glue lines.

Acrylic in your DAP.

Now THERE"S your colored blank!

Hey Brian! I just finished painting that blood red short board.

Colored DAP and 2 VERY light coats.

Absolutely the deepest color I have achieved with the least amount of paint!

And the blank is SUPER LIGHT!

I’ll post pics on the other thread later

Hi Todd -

Are you sealing the paint before glassing? Any issues with bleeding or color running when hit with the resin?

I’ve sprayed yellow on spackled EPS and the irregular color that developed along the laps had me worried at first but when I did the other side it evened out. I’m not sure if I’d have the same luck with red?

Hey John

We’ll find out this week!

I was worried about that too because of all I’ve heard and read about yellows and reds.

I don’t think it’ll be a problem with the cheater coat, and my theory is that since my sprays were so light they won’t be a problem either.

Also, there is a considerable amount of black in it to get it that deep, rich blood color, so that should help as well.

That’s the theory anyway. Lets hope I’m right!

I’ll let you know.

By “Cheater coat” do you mean a clear acrylic coat over the color before laminating?

Sorry…I should have been more specific.

I am doing this board with EPS, so when I say cheater coat I’m actually talking about the sealer coat of spackle.

I took what I saw on the thread about using acrylic in the spackle to another level by sealing the board with a spackle thinned with the same color as what I wanted the end result to be(actually a little darker because of the white spackle)

Making the sealer do double duty as sealer AND primer.

The spray coat is really only needed to even out any color inconsistancies in the sealer.

WAY less paint to spray, especially for a dark color like “blood red”

The yellow/red bleed phenomenon SHOULD(theoretical) be much less of an issue.

Well…we’re certainly gonna find out!
