Hello all, please aid me in determining if there is a legitimate market for custom epoxy surfboards. This is a short painless survey and I would really appriciate your participation.

Thank you so much for helping out a fellow surfer/ boardbuilder.

I was able to log in and take survey but had to alter your link. After removing the last part of link URL, it seemed to work.

Without being able to take your survey, I CAN say there is a market for custom epoxy boards. More and more surfers are coming over to the weigh and the light  How about point blanks, epoxy pro, clyde beatty, infinity, and HDX. There are numerous others who are testing the waters with epoxy as well.

I didn’t fill out the link, as I’m not in a financial position to buy a new $650 board.

But if I were, I’d definetely try a epoxy glassed board…core would have to depend on warrantee and assurances from the builder.

I know closedcell is still in the experimental stages, close to finalized, but not quite.

Open styro, you hear all the claims, but seeing is believing, so so far, no thanks.

But maybe for small waves, powerless waves, epoxy styro IS the future, and possibly already happenning for those who would take the financial venture.

OTOH, I hate small waves, so prolly not for me.

On another note…thanks, Jeff Wells, for the wealth of info, offers, and tech help.

I was unable to access your survey.I believe there is a market for custom epoxy[handshaped]boards.I am currently riding one and love it.i had it glassed slightly heavier than normal and it feels great, rides great and i think it will last with normal tlc.

Sorry for the bad link I edited the original post with the correct one. Here it is again just in case. Thanks again for the participation guys.

I do not mean to cover old ground but by ‘closed cell’ are you referring to extruded polystyrene used in Pointblanks and XTR boards?

Is the ‘open cell’ polystyrene the beercooler type used by the Brevard County, Florida shaping community (Loehr, Forstall, etc)

Is the low temperature gassing and potential delam a problem with closed cell?

Is water absorption the problem with open cell?

Or do I have this completely backwards??!!

Thanks, John
