Cutting a board down?

First, thanks to everybody who has posted how-to’s and advice on boardbuilding.  I’m not sure I could’ve done it without this forum.

Anyway, I posted a picture of my first board.  It’s a “midi simmons”  6’8" and it’s a truck…weighs in at 16lbs.  After getting some great rides I’m really wishing I went waaaay shorter with it.  Thinking between 5’6" and 5’2".  I’m a decent surfer at 175lbs.

Here’s the question…is it a crazy idea to just cut off 1.5 feet, peeling of a bit more glass to adjust the rocker, reshape and re-glass the nose?

Thanks,

Matt

go for it, what the worst that could happen

I tried searching and couldn’t come up with any similar threads.  If anybody could point me in the the direction of something similar or have some do’s or dont’s about the project that would be great too.

Thanks,

Matt

It gets great rides, thats more than could be said for a lot of boards.  Why not keep it, and build another?

16lb and 6'8"  = kind of makes me feel a bit happier my latest hws build at 9'8" and 16lb isn't too shabby after all

i'd be tempted just to make another and keep the other one as it is. one can never have too many boards - i think i've just negotiated board storage space inside the house with the missus without having to throw anything away which i think is a result.

if you do chop it up then make a handplane with the scraps - they look fun

How do you wind up with a 6’8" that weighs 16 lbs? Is it triple glassed with ten oz and a 3/4 deck patch?

Thanks for the input guys.  Probably right, I may just keep it like it is.  I guess coming from short boards that are less than 6 ft and clock in at about 5 lbs it was kind of a shock to ride this thing.  Still can’t believe the speed this thing generates on smallish waves.

And Sammy, I used a full deck patch, 6oz cloth all around.  And being the first-timer hack that I am, I messed up when saturating on the deck lam.  So to make it smooth I did 2 fill coats.  Oh, and it’s 23" wide.
