Been away on holiday and got back to find my idiot dad had put a ladder ontop of my 10 ft longboard blanked that was finsihed and ready to be glassed
It’s got dents in the rails too which i think i could sand out put theres three dents the size of bottle tops underneath and i dont know what to do?! Try sand them out :s fill them with something? Chop blank at 5’6 and make a minisimmons?
Take a fine screen on a foam pad and take out any small scratches. Any major dings you can try to fill them with a bog of resin and filler but unless you undertake some major trickery they almost always show as weird spots. If it needs to be perfect then fill and opaque glass job.
Better to just glass the blank and ignore the blems.
For compression dents you could try applying some heat, like from a heat gun or hair dryer, to raise the foam . Go easy and try to avoid burning it, though. Other than that I’d be tempted to cut and sink some foam plugs into those holes with thickened epoxy and reshape.
If you've saved some of the rail cut offs I would cut some patches. I've done it before. If you do it right only you will know where to look to find the damage.
Hope you haven't filled, sanded etc yet. Because the advice above about using a heat gun or blow dryer is solid advice. Try that first. Chances are good that you may not need to fill at all. The blow dryer should at least pull the dents up enough that you will not need to use as much filler. Just get it warm. Don't burn it. That's why I prefer a blow dryer, because it doesn't get as hot as a heat gun. I have filled alot of "worm holes" etc with lightweight spackle. When I say "lightweight " I mean the kind that when you pick it up off the sales shelf at Lowes, it feels like the container is empty. Just dab it on with your finger directly on the dent or hole. Don't spread it to the surrounding foam. If you spread it onto the surrounding foam it will smear , making your repair more noticeable. That is the most common mistake made by others who attempt to fill a hole or dent this way. Let it dry overnight--OVERNIGHT! Then screen it with sanding screen( not sandpaper). Be careful to stay off the surrounding foam. On a clear polyurethane blank this type of repair can only be seen by someone who knows what they are looking for. Not the average bloke. The blow dryer won't work on EPS.
First thing , dis own your idiot dad !!! Tell him hes got to move out, cant live at home any more. My idiot dad left the covers off my worm farm tubs and the chickens ate all my worms !!! Idiot dad are idiots but they can't help themself, because they are old and we all no that the old man is just to old and dumb to know anything !!!!
Grind up the board into a fine dust...Then strip down naked as a baby, and cover yourself in maple surup. Roll in the foam dust and go sit in his favorite chair......waiting until he gets home.
When he gets home stand up...fart and run out the back door screaming something about ladders and how whacked you turned out.
It worked for me a few times....It will work for you too.
if you dont want to burn and yellow the foam, get a paper towel wet it, dab some water into the dent, put the paper towel over the blank and touch a hot iron onto the dented area. it should rise right out. let it dry thoroughly before glassing
Your dad should take you out back and whop your behind for you doing such a dumb thing. Maybe he’s trying to send you a message that its time to move out. Looks like you never learned your lesson about putting things away. Shame another village idiot that blames others for his mistakes. Time to man up and take responsibility.
