I always thought that next time I would take one of my old worn out boards, that still surfed very well, and just leave it in whatever country I was in. It would be wonderful not have to fuss with a board on the way home. I might even find someone that would give me a few bucks for it!
Yeah,
I’ve been fairly lucky my last 4 trips (CR and Peru) both boards came out with very minor cosmetic type stuff, if any at all. It has been said before pack it well, towels make good padding, good day bags foam on nose and tails, use a GOOD travel bag and keep it light. My buddy whose bag weighed twice what mine did suffered some bad damage. Oh yeah watch out for the zippers whether they are on the bags or wetsuits.
I usually don’t like to bring my newest boards but sometimes they are the right ones for the waves
JN
what i’ve been doing for many years is sending my boards a few days early with fedex or airborne express.
the cost is about the same,no hassles at the airport, and they take good care of them…
Two things to say on this.
Santa Monica Surfcase
Tip the Skycap $20 (each way)
You’ll be amazed at how well this works.
