The grommetts been buggin me for a new board. So now I’ve decided to try and shape one for her. I’ve spent some time in the acchives but have found very little on boards for kids. She is currently riding an old GS swollow tial/fish 6’2" which she has trouble even carring. I want to make somthing more inline with her size and abbility. She is 4’6" 65lbs. I was thinking of a 5’9",22"wide(at middle),12"nose,18"tail squash 4"nose rocker 11/2" tail rocker 3"thick. I think I might have gone a little big on the demensions. the only ones Icould find in the acchives where 5’9" 12.5"nose 18.5wide 14"tail shaped from a 5’9"r blank. Any advice would be apprecatted.
I think 22 & 18 are a little excessive, I don’t think you can get a blank with a tail that wide. at 65lbs she’ll never be able to turn a board that thick and wide. the 5’9" measurements sound better for what you want, add a 1/2-1" to the tail and take 1/2-1" out of the middle. my son’s (47lbs) 5’7" made from the 5’9"R is only 2" thick and he does great. I would suggest 2 1/4"- 2 1/2" thick. I would also suggest using the 6’0"R to get that thickness and use the natural rocker. hope that helps.

Thanks thats sounds better than my demensions I was thinking of giving it plenty of flotation but your right she would never be able to turn it. This will be my frist board and since its for my daughter I want to make sure its done right. I need to spend more time in the archives. Thanks again for your suggestions.
Look at your basic egg shapes like a 5’10" Ed Sakal Egg or anything similar to that. It is perfect size and style for the 65 lb beginner. My daughter shaped and glassed her own board over the summer. We got all the materials at Form EZ. It was fun but you might be better off letting a glass shop glass the foam when you are done shaping. It would be more cost effective than buying all the tools and supplies.
I’m planning on having it glassed professinaly. I’m just not ready for that yet.Besides since it is for my daughter I relly don’t want to screw it up.How old was your daughter when you let her shape her own board.I’d love to do that with my little girl someday.
We did this over the past summer. My daughter is 12. She did about 95% of everything on her own. I was less concerned about the quality since she has a couple of nice boards in her quiver already (An Ed Sakal 5’ 10" Egg which is very easy to learn on and an Al Merrick Flyer II, autographed by Kelly Slater.
