DEC. 6th @ DOHENY STATE BEACH.

Guys,

The Longboard Collectors Club, is holding a major buy/sell/swap Meet & Show, on SATURDAY DEC. 6TH, 7am to Noon, at DOHENY STATE BEACH. I’ll be there with a 9’7’’ squaretail balsa gun. There is a raffle, which will include some surfboards, and surf memoribilia. This is their major annual event.

Thought you might like to know.

Got some buds dat ,live/eat/breath that event… every year.

If all goes…I’ll show.

Herb

Herb,

I’ll be keeping an eye out for you. There is going to be lots of Pupu’s there, and of course something to wash it down with. I look forward to breaking some bread with you.

The International Surfboard Builders Hall of Fame awards are scheduled for 10:00 A.M.. The inductees are Ben Aipa, Phil Edwards, Tom Morey, Mike Eaton, and Woody Brown. You are encouraged to bring their boards for display. We are hoping for the usual celebrities to be present: Gordie, Munoz, Carl Eckstrom, and hopefully, Pat Curren. The “Greek” (Bob Bolen) and Mike “Mickey Rat” Ester really knock themselves out for these awards and put a great deal of effort (labor and $$$) into it. Mike Ester makes some classic trophies for the icons of surf.

Rumor has it that a VELZY, circa 1961, and stored since 1961, will be showing up and be offered for sale. I’ve seen it. It is original, un-restored. The board appears to have not been ridden. I thought someone out there might like to know.

Good Lord!

Can you imagine how much that board would cost? What a great piece of history to be able to see in person.

I have a 50s Hobie; #153 that I’m restoring.

It be… lots of fun !

I think I can muscle up an item or two.

Herb

The rumor of the 1961 Velzy, I’m told, is true. The board WILL be there.

Bumping up…I’ll have a 9’7’’ multi stringer, Balsa Gun, and a 9’ 0’’ hollow stringer twinfin, Sunsrt Special Gun there. Both available, ride, or collect.

I will bring a few boards to sell very reasonable

Hope you can make it Ken.

It’s the board premier swap meet of board swaps.

Should be some real bargains !

Herb

Bill

could you or someone give me the jist of what I will need for this event

I plan on bringing a few boards, my son and my sweetie and truck

easy up, chairs? cooler? beer, no beer?

Ken,

I’ve not attended before, but I’m sure chairs, and other items for your ‘‘comfort’’ would be in order. You might google the Longboard Collectors Club, and check their website. I’m sure they have some info about the event. The raffle, at the event, will include a vintage G & S, and a vintage CHALLENGER surfboard. I hope to see you there.

Cool !

Fat Freddy is a good bro !

Bill -----------The Doheny meets are the best of the year! Great deals(bring cash) and great Aloha in general. The last time I was able to make one Bill Holden did a pig on a spit. It was great. Dale Velzy and Wife were there and offered me some good advice. I hate to miss this one. Do me a favor;----------Don’t miss it. I’ll be living on the Mainland next year and will not miss 2009. Have fun my buddas! Lowel

Hope this helps others

I spoke with Roger Mann of the longboarders club.

He told me that there is no beer permited in the state park, bummer

the event will be held in the grass area between the two parking lots

I scoped it out and after you enter the gate shack make the first right into a parking lot

and keep veering right so that your kind of parralleling the road, you will see the grass on your left then you will come to another lot to park

as Bill said bring, chairs, blanket, cooler, babes, kids, boards, whatever makes you happy

Roger said join the club and get free lunch $25

should be great

Had a phone call from Herb, he assures me he will be there too. Going to be fun.

Bill,

Any idea where exactly at Doheny this will be?

Glenn,

Ken’s post, #17 above, has some good general directions. Sounds like the same location as the Velzy Memorial, a few years back.
