I have a 10’ light blue yater that is experiencing some minor deck delamination. The afffected area is roughly 7 inches long by 4 inches in width, and it is aproximately i inch from the rail in the middle of the board. BUT HERE IS THE STRANGE THING…After a small cut I noticed that the glass is still laminated to about 1/8" of foam. STRANGE!!! So when you push down on the area it is a bit soft and you can see the glass crackle. Any help fixing this problem would be most appreciated. Also just wanted to say to all what a wonderful resource Swaylocks is and I have recieved excellent info on a number of issues. THANKS ALL
Laminating resin penetrates polyurethane foam about 1/8". Cut around and remove the delam, back to laminated bond. Feather the good glass edge back 1" from the repair. Fill the delam with exterior lightweight spackling compound. Dry the spackle thoroughly. Sand the spackle back to the original shaped foam level. Spray the dried spackle with a matching water acrylic paint color, and dry the paint. Tape around the area and resin in two layers of glass. Sand, coat with sanding resin, sand and polish.>>> I have a 10’ light blue yater that is experiencing some minor deck > delamination. THANKS ALL Sounds like your delam is a little deeper than skin-level. Noodle’s got some good advice if you want to “really” do it right. But I have often done delams the old fashioned way. A 1/8" or 1/4" dia. hole at each end of the affected area, use a resin syringe or mustard squirt bottle to squeeze white pigmented resin in one hole till it comes out the other. Throw some wax paper over the area and put weight bag on it (sand, dirt, clay, rice, etc.) until it kicks about 75% and scrape the excess. Then ding repair the holes full of white resin. This way is not necessarily the “best” way, just the least destructive/invasive, in my opinion, and lasts pretty well if you use laminating resin kicked slowly for the delam, then hot-patching the holes. Hope that helps, Jake
