Degroot & Mason

I’ve been collecting 70’s boards over the past couple years, fixing them up and re-conditioning them, I figure they’re easier to handle and store for a collection than old 60’s boards, and have cool cutlaps and resin pinwork and such. I’ve got a Hansen Master,a Surfboards Hawaii that looks like it’s still brand new,a Surfboards by Don,a Hansen Doyle model,a Lightning Bolt stinger, an Overlin,a 9’8" Bob White pintail, and a mint condition Con C.C. Mini-pin from the shortboard revolution (Claude Codgen 7’10"). I know someone with a Degroot & Mason single fin, kinda dark green acid smear, and was wondering where they were made, or if anyone else has heard of 'em? May pick it up.

i think they were made in point pleasant, new jersery back in the late sixties. check out international surfing magazine volume 5/number 1. on page 3 you will find a full page ad. hope this will be of some help. sounds like you found a rare board!

They had a factory on Bridge Ave. In Point Pleasant Boro, NJ in the early 70’s.

Hey thanks guys. I had a hunch it was in the northeast, Someone around here thought Degroot & Mason was from the Long Island area. It was close. It’s one of those real early seventies boards with sort of a “s” rocker and dark green smear, kinda ugly but cool too. I figured someone on here would have heard of 'em.

DeGroot nad Mason (an Architechual group from the phone book) was the choice for the company name. Gene Cottrell was the shaper and partner, they were from Freehold, NJ
